Japanese designer Jin Kuramoto created Machiya. The name refers to the traditional wooden townhouses of Japan, built side by side to save space and with wooden lattices on the facade. These features return in the fine lines and the smart storage shelf. Rattan is very flexible, and once steamed it can be shaped by hand with old techniques and a few simple tools. Rattan regrows in 5 to 7 years, which makes it a sustainable material for furniture. Sika-Design only uses the two best rattan qualities, Tohiti and Manau. It belongs to the ICONS collection, in which Sika-Design brings back designs by renowned designers in close cooperation with their descendants.
In the same collection you also find Sika-Design Machiya bench.
You find every piece of the collection in Machiya and the full range in Indoor furniture.
